Winnipeg police charge man with murder in 2023 homicide of 24-year-old in Elmwood

Winnipeg police have made an arrest in the homicide of a 24-year-old man in Elmwood nearly three years ago.
Joseph Robert Campbell died in hospital on Oct. 14, 2023, after he was found by officers injured on the sidewalk.
Police at the time said he had been “grievously assaulted” by a group of individuals near Keenleyside Street and Kent Road.
In the days following the homicide, police say they identified three persons of interest. A year after Campbell’s death, law enforcement released photos of them.
Now police say a suspect was eventually identified.
Skylar Rain Gamblin, 21, was arrested Tuesday morning and has been charged with second-degree murder. The allegation against him has not been tested in court.
The WPS homicide unit will continue to investigate.
