What began with a dare ended with a stiff warning from Winnipeg police for a teenager who rigged an SUV with flashing lights.
Winnipeg police say they began investigating earlier this week after getting a tip about a Ford Explorer in a parking lot with flashing red and blue lights in its rear view window.
Police say the 17-year-old driver admitted he was provoked by his friends to install the temporary lighting using suction cups.
They say the vehicle was a decommissioned police unit, but an inspection found tinted front windows that prompted a ticket.
The police say the teen was educated about the consequences of driving a car made to look like an active police service vehicle.
They say anyone who modifies their personal vehicle to deceive the community can face criminal charges.
