Fire crews battle morning fire at vacant home

By CityNews Staff

At 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 200 block of Austin Street North.

Firefighters launched a defensive attack, because it was unsafe to enter the house due to smoke. Crews used aerial ladders to apply water to the fire from above.

No injuries were reported but The building sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage. Because of the structural concerns, the WFPS is arranging an emergency demolition of the building with road closures in place in the area until work is complete.

It was noted that freezing temperatures created challenging conditions for firefighters, as crews were rotated in and out of operations to provide them with breaks from the cold.
