U.S. fugitive wanted for statutory rape arrested in Winnipeg

An American man wanted on multiple sex charges in the United States involving a minor was arrested in Winnipeg last week.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a 35-year-old from Tennessee was stopped by officers on the afternoon of May 7 for allegedly speeding near Higgins Avenue and McArther Street.

Authorities say the driver had outstanding warrants from the U.S. for aggravated statutory rape, soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor, and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor. He was taken into custody.

Winnipeg police proceeded to notify the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Greenbrier Police Department in Tennessee.

The man was turned over to the CBSA. He will be held until he can be returned to the United States to face charges, the WPS says.
