Winnipeg police say a 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a woman in front of the Law Courts building last month.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it responded to the Provincial Court Law Courts on March 17 for the report of a 20-year-old woman who was assaulted by an unknown man.

Officers found the victim with an upper-body injury sustained during an alleged physical assault. Police say she was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The WPS sex crimes unit investigated and identified a suspect.

He was arrested Tuesday on St. Johns Avenue near Main Street.

Police say the man is facing charges of robbery and sexual assault. He was released on an undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.

Police say the victim fell to the sidewalk, and the suspect touched her on the lower body. He fled on foot before police arrived.
