2 girls arrested after woman stabbed, robbed in Winnipeg store parking lot

Winnipeg police say two girls, aged 12 and 14, were arrested after a woman in her 60s was stabbed in the parking lot of a store on McGillivray Boulevard two weeks ago.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the woman was confronted by the two youth on Nov. 26 as she walked back to her vehicle after shopping.

Authorities say the girls demanded the woman hand over her purse. “When the victim did not initially comply, she was stabbed. The suspects grabbed her purse and ran off,” WPS said in a news release Monday.

Police say bystanders in the parking lot ran to help the woman and call emergency services.

The woman was hospitalized in unstable condition, where she was later upgraded to stable condition.

On Dec. 4, Winnipeg police allege a teenage girl was threatened at knifepoint by the same two suspects – who she knew – and was driven in an allegedly stolen vehicle to Brandon. “She was let out in Brandon and they drove away,” police said.

The duo was arrested in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation on Dec. 5.

The 14-year-old was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, forcible confinement, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and more. She was detained in custody.

The 12-year-old is facing charges of robbery and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. She was released.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
