2 people hospitalized after fire in 2-storey rooming house in Winnipeg

A resident of a rooming house and a firefighter were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a two-storey rooming house Saturday night.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire a 911 call around 9:30 p.m. reporting the fire in the rooming house located in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the building and contained the fire in about half an hour.

The residents of the building were evacuated.

“One resident was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition,” WFPS said, in a press release.

A firefighter was also taken to a hospital after an injury sustained during the operation.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates were not available.
