Winnipeg police (WPS) have arrested a 22-year-old man with outstanding Canada-wide warrants after he rode an e-scooter erratically in the North End neighbourhood.
Police say Owen Lucas Pistun was operating an e-scooter travelling south on Salter Street near Redwood Avenue.
“Pistun could be seen weaving in and out of lanes causing traffic to slow down and creating a traffic hazard,” WPS said.
Pistun was arrested after he attempted to flee on foot as officers tried to stop him.
“During the arrest, Pistun was observed reaching into a body worn satchel prompting the deployment of a conducted energy weapon (Taser) in order to safely take Pistun into custody.”
He reportedly had two arrest warrants against him. Police seized a loaded handgun, some opioid pills and $1,300 in cash.
Pistun faces multiple charges including for possession of firearms, ammunition and resisting arrest, among others. He was also ticketed for careless driving.
He remains in police custody.
