Dinosaurs come to Winnipeg

The RBC convention centre in Winnipeg has been filled with dinosaurs for the Jurassic Quest exhibit. Mitchell Ringos reports.

A herd of dinosaurs has arrived in Winnipeg and taking shelter at the RBC Convention Centre for North America’s most popular interactive dinosaur experience called Jurassic Quest, which will have hands-on activities, educational experiences, and of course dinosaurs.

Jurassic Quest includes an expanded herd of life-like moving and roaring dinosaurs, themed rides, and attractions, live dinosaur shows, interactive science and art activities including a giant fossil dig, real fossils, a “Triceratots” soft play area for little explorers, and a newly launched video tour featuring the star dinosaur trainers.

“We are getting an experience set up not just an event, so we’re here to make sure this runs smoothly and we give these locals of Winnipeg a lifetime experience,” said Samira Lyons, a Jurassic Quest face painter and performer.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime event, you’ve never seen us like this before so you’re going to want to come out and see us.”

The event will also have live dinos walking the convention centre floors, with trainers on sight to make sure they don’t escape to downtown Winnipeg, with trainer Krystal Bogle saying it’s always exciting for the Dinos and everyone who attends.

“The baby dinosaur is very excited, you get to meet Tyson tomorrow as well, Tyson is our T-Rex,” said Bogle.

While Jurassic Quest has been bringing epic dinosaur experiences across North America since 2013, showcasing an up-close look at the giants that ruled the Earth millions of years ago, Lyons says this year will be bigger and better.

“Brand new experience, that’s what we’re bringing to Canada, making sure you experience you are experiencing something new each time you come to visit, something better,” said Lyons.

You can check out Jurassic Quest all weekend long.
