Human remains of ‘archaeological nature’ found by Manitoba road maintenance crew

Police say a road maintenance crew in Manitoba found human remains last week believed to be of a “historical or archaeological nature.”
Virden RCMP say the workers were cleaning ditches in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth, west of Winnipeg, following recent flooding when they came across “two pieces of a human skull and a bone.”
Police say the remains were found last Wednesday afternoon on Road 57 North, just east of Road 148 West
“Work stopped, Virden RCMP were called and a perimeter around the area was established,” RCMP said in a news release.
A forensic anthropologist and her team were called to the scene the following morning. They found a partial skull, right shin bone and lower left femur, according to police.
The Manitoba Historic Resources Branch also searched the scene.
Mounties say some of the remains will be tested and carbon dated.
