9-year-old girl dies in off-road vehicle crash in Dauphin: RCMP

Manitoba RCMP say a nine-year-old girl has died after the off-road vehicle she was riding in rolled.

Police say her 40-year-old father was driving the two-seat-wide utility terrain vehicle Monday on a property in the rural municipality of Dauphin.

They say that despite lifesaving efforts she died at the scene, while her father was transported to a hospital in Winnipeg with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Manitoba Public Insurance warned last year about the rising number of young people being injured in off-road vehicle crashes.

It said that in the previous four years, the number of injuries related to the vehicles has been between 80 and 100 per year.
