Winnipeg, Southern Manitoba under special air quality statement due to wildfire smoke

Winnipeg and parts of southeastern Manitoba are under an air quality statement according to Environment Canada.

Wildfire smoke from B.C. and the Northwest Territories is the cause of the poor conditions.

According to Environment Canada, the worst of the smoke is expected to clear by Tuesday evening, however, it may linger and vary in some areas.

The warning has been issued due to the dangers of wildfire smoke and the toxins that may be within it.

Officials are urging the public to limit time spent outdoors.

People with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and young children should take caution.

For those who work outdoors, respirator-type masks are recommended, and staying well hydrated can also help the body cope with smoke.
