Winnipeg man, 18, drowns in rural Manitoba gravel pit: RCMP

A police underwater recovery team has found the body of an 18-year-old man who drowned while swimming across a gravel pit in the RM of Hanover on Sunday night.
St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP say the man was with a group of friends at the gravel pit on Road 25 East south of Grunthal when he began to swim across it.
Authorities say he got halfway when he disappeared underwater and did not resurface.
Police were notified around 9:30 p.m. RCMP and firefighters tried finding the man, helped by STARS flying overheard shining spotlights on the water.
The Manitoba RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) was called to the scene Monday morning and found the 18-year-old’s body.
St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP is continuing to investigate.
