Winnipeg man accused of waving replica firearm through sunroof on Trans-Canada Highway

Mounties say a 25-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges, including assault with a weapon, after allegedly waving what turned out to be a replica firearm out of his sunroof while driving on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Portage la Prairie RCMP say they received a report of a man driving erratically on the highway Tuesday shortly before noon. They say the man “waved a handgun through his vehicle’s sunroof after passing another car east of Portage la Prairie.”

Authorities stopped the vehicle about 20 minutes later near Highway 16 and arrested the suspect.

Police allege they seized an airsoft replica BB handgun from the vehicle.

The accused has been charged with assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, uttering threats and more.

He is scheduled to appear in court in September.
