Winnipeg police say a 16-year-old has been charged with animal cruelty offences after a cat was killed on Monday night.
The Winnipeg Police Service alleges the teen was in the city’s Centennial neighbourhood with a cat, believed to be alive at the time, inside a plastic bag.
“The youth then removed the cat from the bag and assaulted it with a knife, resulting in its death,” WPS said in a news release.
Officers, who were called on a report of a youth injuring a cat with a knife, arrived to find the youth holding a knife near the dead cat.
The 16-year-old was taken into custody and has been charged with killing or injuring animals, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, possession of a weapon and more.
