New ballots, more places and times to vote in federal election

When you cast your ballot in this fall’s federal election, you’ll now have more places — and time — to do so.
Elections Canada announced Tuesday advance polling stations will be open longer, and there will be more locations to vote ahead of election day on October 21.

This year, advance voting days are Oct. 11 to Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can find your polling station location when your voter information card comes in the mail.

“Voters can also register and vote by special ballot at any of the more than 500 local Elections Canada offices at any time until Tuesday, October 15, whether they are in their electoral district or outside of their district,” says Canada’s Chief Electoral Officer Stephen Perreault.

New paper ballots are also being rolled out this year.
“A new paper ballot design with larger font and other features to make it easier to read was introduced at by-elections earlier this year, and will be in use for the general election,” Perreault says.
