Teenager arrested after 2 people shot on quad on northern Manitoba First Nation

Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with Tuesday’s shooting of two people who were riding an all-terrain vehicle on a First Nation in northern Manitoba.

A 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were injured – one of them with life-threatening injuries – in the shooting on Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, also known as Pukatawagan. They were brought into the nursing station, then flown to Winnipeg for further treatment.

A shelter in place alert was issued as an RCMP emergency response team searched for a suspect.

Authorities say that search led them to a home in the community on Tuesday evening, where a teenager was taken into custody. The youth cannot be identified.

He is facing charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and more. He remains in police custody.

Pukatawagan RCMP are continuing to investigate.

Mathias Colomb is a fly-in community located more than 800 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
