Smashed windshields virtually as far as the eye could see.
Winnipeg police say nearly two dozen parked cars on Furby Street were damaged Wednesday morning by a suspect using a chain.
The Winnipeg Police Service says the 22 vehicles had their windshields and windows smashed around 6:30 a.m.
Jess Joseph lives on Furby Street with his four children. He says his morning routine quickly took a turn when he discovered two of his family vehicles had been damaged.
“Every day we have to travel a lot to drop the kids to the school and those kind of stuff,” Joseph told CityNews. “I’m running a store at Ellice and Furby. So it ruins the day really bad.”

As he drove away, he noticed he wasn’t alone.
“Rows of cars, yeah. Because I took my car from here, then I went to Notre-Dame that way. Then I see like seven or eight cars back-to-back, same way. Some are damaged on the left driver’s side, some are damaged on the passenger side.”

Officers were flagged down, spoke to victims and obtained home video surveillance showing the vandalism.
“I always get scared when car got broke, what about my windows and they come inside. That’s always the part which I am scared of,” Joseph said.
Joseph, who owns a convenience store just a few blocks, says break-ins and vandalism are something he regularly deals with, both at his business and at now outside his home.
“People break the glass on the side windows for every time. Try to steal something, try to check the car to see like, is there any cash.”

Around 9:20 a.m., police say a suspect who had a chain on him was arrested on Main Street and Rupert Avenue.
“This will never stop,” Joseph said. “That’s what I feel personally because I’m living in this area. This is my house. I’m living in this area and I’m seeing this every time, every night.”
Despite the damage, Joseph says he has no plans to leave the neighbourhood he calls home.
Phillip Hastings, 30, was charged with mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon, and failure to comply with probation order. He was detained in custody.
The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
