Winnipeg man, 54, accused of sexually assaulting 2 youths

Winnipeg police say a 54-year-old man has been charged after two youths were sexually assaulted.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the first alleged incident happened in October, and another this past weekend.

Authorities say on Saturday, two youths – including one who knew the man as an acquaintance – went to the accused’s home and consumed alcohol and drugs. Police allege one of the youths left but the other stayed and was physically and sexually assaulted.

Officers responded to the home in the central part of Winnipeg the following morning, searching for the youth who was reported missing. They say they found the youth inside with the man. He was taken into custody and turned over to the sex crimes unit.

Winnipeg police say investigators then learned of an alleged incident from October where one of the youths was assaulted by the same suspect.

Lawrence Philip Richards was charged with the multiple offences including sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference, forcible confinement, and assault by choking, suffocating or strangling. He was detained in custody.

The allegations against him have not been tested in court.

The police investigation is continuing.
