Winnipeg police say a teen was hospitalized after being attacked with a machete late last week.

WPS says officers responded to reports around 7:39 p.m. on June 13 that a teen was seriously injured during an attempted robbery involving a machete in the St. James area.

Reports indicate that Winnipeg Fire Paramedics Services was nearby at the time of the incident on an unrelated matter, when they saw a group of teens gathering. During this time, one teen allegedly assaulted another with a machete.

Officers attended the scene and found the injured teen and learned that his personal property had also been stolen during the incident.

He was taken to hospital in unstable condition, before being upgraded to stable. Police also note that he did suffer life-altering injuries.

It is believed that several teens were involved in the incident, and police are looking to identify everyone involved.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
