Virden airport expansion: Manitoba investing $1.65M

The Manitoba government is investing $1.65 million to expand and upgrade the regional airport in Virden.

The funding will allow for greater capacity, the province says, and will make the airport accessible to commercial operators, medical transfer flights and STARS helicopters.

Glen Simard, the minister of municipal and northern relations, says the investment will boost tourism and economic activity for Virden and the area.

Town of Virden councillor Bruce Dunning called it a “significant milestone for our airport.”

Virden is about 285 kilometres west of Winnipeg.
