Sea Bears player in critical condition in ICU after complications during brain aneurysm surgery

By News Staff

A player with the Winnipeg Sea Bears in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) is in the intensive care unit, the team announced Thursday.

Chad Posthumus, 33, was hospitalized last week after suffering a large brain aneurysm during a training session.

In a social media post, the Sea Bears say there were some complications during a “long and complex surgery” that successfully repaired the brain aneurysm, and that Posthumus is now in critical condition.

“The Posthumus family, along with Chad’s partner Meagan, are very grateful for the outpouring of support and continues prayers for Chad. We ask that you please provide them with privacy during this difficult time,” the team wrote.

“We continue to keep Chad and family on our thoughts. Thank you for all the support.”

Last season, Posthumus played in 19 of 20 regular-season contests for the Sea Bears, averaging 5.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in his second season with the Winnipeg club.
