Winnipeg infant girl hospitalized for alleged malnutrition and abuse; parents charged

Two Winnipeg parents are facing charges after they brought their unresponsive infant daughter to the emergency due to alleged malnutrition and abuse late last month, according to police.

The Winnipeg Police Service was alerted by hospital officials who judged the infant’s injuries were suspicious.

WPS child abuse investigators arrested both parents on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old mother is facing charges of failing to provide the necessities of life. The 33-year-old father is facing charges of aggravated assault and failing to provide the necessities of life.

Both were detained in police custody awaiting disposition.
