More zebra mussels found in Clear Lake: Parks Canada

By CityNews Staff

Parks Canada has confirmed Tuesday that more zebra mussels have been found in Clear Lake at Riding Mountain National Park.

Parks Canada staff have found six living juvenile zebra mussels in the lake and these mussels were found on both Sept. 19 and Sept. 20.

Zebra mussels were first found in Clear Lake in November 2023. Parks Canada says staff will analyze options for potential eradication treatment.

The temporary watercraft management measures will remain in place and Boat Cove remains closed to the public until further notice.

Parks Canada says they will provide further updates as information becomes available.

Editor’s note: Parks Canada previously incorrectly said there were eight juvenile zebra mussels. They have since corrected that to six.
