Will the Supreme Court decide the future of sex work in Canada?

By Analysis by The Big Story Podcast

In today’s Big Story podcast, after a Charter challenge was shot down in Ontario, an appeal may bring the laws that govern sex work in this country directly to the Supreme Court. At the heart of the issue is this question: Is sex work inherently exploitative? Or should it be treated like any other job?

Dr. Meredith Ralston is a professor at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, as well as a filmmaker and an author. She says societal views on sex work are influenced by long-standing fallacies regarding female sexuality.

“The deep rootedness of those ideas about women’s sexuality, that’s at the root of it, and I think that really has to be challenged,” says Ralston.

So what might the future of Canadian sex work look like?
