Winnipeg crossing guard still waiting for answers after crash

A Winnipeg woman who was seriously injured while working as a crossing guard says she is still waiting for answers more than two years after she was struck by a vehicle.
Luna Zuniga says she has only recently been able to return to work, with significant restrictions, after suffering multiple injuries to her left side.
“I just recently was able to go back to work with restrictions… a lot of restrictions,” said Zuniga.
“I’ve had a lot of physiotherapy. I’m a category C which means it’s very complex and there were many injuries. So, all on my left side,” said Zuniga.
Zuniga says the person responsible for the crash has not yet appeared in court.
She also says she recently learned Victim Services had closed her file without informing her.
“So yesterday I called Victim Services, I explained the situation, I said I have not heard anything. They said ‘Well, your file is closed’ and I went into a panic because I didn’t know what that meant. I was trying to get answers and they said ‘Well, we are no longer associated with this, you’ll have to call the Crown,’” said Zuniga.
Zuniga says she then tried to contact the Crown attorney’s office but was unable to get through.
“I was given a number, it picks up the phone call, then you’re put on hold, then the call would drop. It did this many times,” said Zuniga.
Manitoba Justice Minister Matt Wiebe was unavailable for comment. His office provided a statement regarding Zuniga’s concerns.
In the meantime, Zuniga says she is still trying to find out what happened to her case and where it stands.
