Winnipeg to roll out free transit passes for youth in September

Students across Winnipeg will be able to ride public transit for free this school year as the city prepares to launch a new youth transit pass pilot program in September.
The program will provide free transit to students aged 11 to 21 who are enrolled in a Winnipeg-based public, independent or home school program.
The City of Winnipeg says the initiative is designed to remove transportation barriers and improve access to school, recreation, employment and community activities.
The passes are being rolled out in partnership with the Manitoba government and will be distributed through the education system.
School divisions will receive passes for distribution to eligible students at the beginning of the school year.
The city says more information about the program and how students can access the passes will be available at the end of August.
The pilot program is set to begin as students return to school in September.
