Manitoba man charged with firing gun at suspected thieves on his property

A Manitoba man is facing charges for allegedly firing shots towards the vehicles of suspected thieves accused of stealing from his property.
Pembina Valley RCMP say it happened Saturday in the RM of Dufferin.
Four suspects are believed to have gone to a rural private property earlier in the day and then returned that evening in what police say were vehicles stolen from Saskatchewan.
The 66-year-old owner of the property was alerted by a motion camera, police say, and went outside to see “suspects transferring fuel from a portable container into one of the stolen vehicles.”
“The property owner, who had a firearm, confronted the suspects,” Mounties said in a news release. “During this confrontation, the property owner fired shots towards the vehicles.”
One suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, which was found the next morning in a field a few kilometres away.
The three other suspects remained at the scene until officers arrived around 10:45 p.m. and took them into custody.
“Various items believed to have been stolen from the property were found in the back of the truck,” police said.
Two men and one woman – aged 29 to 47 – are facing multiple charges including theft, mischief and trespassing. The 29-year-old man is also facing a charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The owner of the property was charged with careless use of a firearm; using a firearm in the commission of an offence; and discharging a firearm in a reckless manner.
