During the investigation of both incidents, police were able to determine both shootings were connected.

On April 13, the homicide unit arrested a 17-year-old Winnipeg teenager in connection with those two shootings, and he was charged in connection to the shootings.

At the time, police issued an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Martin Faruq Luther of Winnipeg.

On Sept. 26, the RCMP in Steinbach found Luther in Hanover, Manitoba, and took him into custody.

He has since been charged with second-degree murder, five counts of attempted murder, five counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of failing to attend court.
