Winnipeg man wanted for 2nd-degree murder after fatal shooting

By News Staff

Winnipeg police are searching for a second suspect in connection to last month’s fatal shooting in the city’s West End, and a separate shooting that injured multiple people.

Lori Gordon, 49, was killed in the March 7 shooting at Beverley Street near Ellice Avenue. A 35-year-old woman was injured in that shooting.

Winnipeg Police Service investigators believe that fatal shooting is connected to another shooting that same morning on Spence Street that sent four men to hospital. The injured were in their 20s and 30s.

On April 13 the homicide unit arrested a 17-year-old Winnipeg teenager in connection with those two shootings. He is facing multiple charges including second-degree murder, five counts of attempt to commit murder and five counts of aggravated assault. He was detained in custody.

Homicide detectives allege 18-year-old Martin Faruq Luther of Winnipeg is a second suspect who remains at large. Police have issued a warrant for second-degree murder for his arrest.

The suspect is described at five-foot-11 with a thin build.

Police warn he is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
