27-year-old Winnipeg man wanted in 2022 shooting case arrested

Winnipeg police (WPS) arrested a 27-year-old man wanted in a shooting incident dating back to January 2022 on Saturday.

Police say the suspect allegedly shot and critically injured a 30-year-old man as he exited the elevator of an apartment building located in the 1100 block of Portage Avenue.

Investigators identified and obtained an warrant for the suspect’s arrest in February 2022. He was arrested in the early Saturday morning in the rear lane of the 600 block of Portage Avenue. He allegedly had a handgun on him, which the investigators seized.

Nejib Abdulrished Hassan was charged with four counts of unauthorized weapons offences, in addition to the aggravated assault charge from the 2022 incident.

He remains in police custody. The allegations have yet to be tested in court.
