1 in critical condition after fire at home on St. Mary’s Road

One person was hospitalized in critical condition after a fire in southeast Winnipeg Tuesday morning.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says it responded to a fire around 12:30 a.m. at a single-storey, multi-family home on St. Mary’s Road.

Crews say they arrived to find smoke coming from the house. The fire was declared under control at 1:05 a.m.

The WFPS says two people self-evacuated prior to crews arriving.

One was treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported to hospital in critical condition. There were no other injuries.

Messier Street fire

Crews were also called to a fire at an industrial building and yard on Messier Street shortly before 1 a.m.

They arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a large pile of rubber and a structure.

The fire was declared under control around 3:40 a.m.

Occupants of the building safely evacuated. There were no injuries reported.

A nearby rail line was temporarily shut down as a precaution, the WFPS says. It was later reopened.

The cause of both fires are under investigation.

Corydon Avenue fire

The WFPS says a fire in a two-storey, multi-family on Corydon Avenue led to one person being hospitalized in stable condition.

Crews were called shortly after 8:30 a.m. and arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the building. It was declared under control at 9:04 a.m.

Occupants of the building self-evacuated, and one person was taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
