Police say four teenagers aged 15 to 17 were arrested early Sunday morning in Portage La Prairie after RCMP allegedly found what is believed to be crack cocaine during a traffic stop.
Portage la Prairie RCMP say they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with four occupants inside around 1:30 a.m.
Police say the 16-year-old driver told an officer he did not have his driver’s licence with him. RCMP allege the teenager gave the officer a fake name, “but was recognized by the officer.” He was placed under arrest for obstruction.
RCMP allege they found a small zip-lock bag containing what is believed to be crack cocaine when they searched him.
Police reportedly asked the three passengers to step out.
“Upon the opening of the back door, the officers observed a large zip-lock bag on the floor containing what is believed to be a larger amount of crack cocaine,” police said in a statement.
“A search of the vehicle located additional drugs, cash and drug related paraphernalia.”
A 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were arrested for the possession of a controlled substance.
All four youths are expected to face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.
