Four people are facing charges after an early-morning break-in and vandalism spree at a convenience store on St. Anne’s Road, according to Winnipeg police.
Officers were called to a commercial robbery in the 400 block of St. Anne’s Road shortly before 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police allege two female youths and two female adults arrived at the store while intoxicated. The lone store clerk noticed the group approaching and locked the doors to prevent them from entering.
Investigators say the suspects became angry and armed themselves with rocks, using them to smash a 2008 Honda CR-V parked outside the business. Police estimate the vehicle sustained more than $5,000 in damage.
Two of the suspects then turned their attention to the store, police said, breaking the front windows and entering the building. Once inside, the pair allegedly damaged property before all four suspects fled the scene.
The store clerk was not injured during the incident. Damage to the business is estimated at more than $5,000.
Police located all four suspects nearby and arrested them without incident. One of the suspects was taken to hospital in stable condition after suffering an injury while kicking the store’s front glass.
Shikyhna Koostachin, 21, faces multiple charges and was detained in custody.
The three other suspects, aged 14, 17 and 20, also face multiple charges. They were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Because two of the accused are youths, their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
