Winnipeg police investigating two shootings

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers are investigating a pair of shootings that happened Wednesday in the city.

Officers say they responded to reports of shots fired at a home along Maryland Street around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

When they arrived and entered the home, they found a 29-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers provided medical care before paramedics arrived and took the man to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Just before 7 p.m., officers responded to another shots fired call, this time at a restaurant on St. James Street.

“It is believed that a group of individuals had left the establishment and entered a nearby ridesharing vehicle. A disagreement ensued, and the 28-year-old male driver was assaulted with a firearm. Several shots were fired, and the group fled the area,” said Winnipeg police in a statement.

Police added the driver of the vehicle suffered injuries, but did not need to go to a hospital.

Police are asking anyone who has any information on either incidents to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
