Winnipeg police investigating weekend stabbings and shooting

Winnipeg police are investigating a shooting and multiple stabbings that occurred over the weekend across the city.

Police say the shooting happened just after midnight on June 19. WPS found a man who had been shot in his lower body outside a home in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition, where he was later upgraded to stable condition.

It is believed that the man accidentally shot himself, but an investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Winnipeg police say the first stabbing happened around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers reported finding a woman “bleeding profusely” along Stewart Street. She was treated on scene before being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Officers canvassed the area and found what is believed to be the original crime scene at a hotel on Portage Avenue.

The second stabbing happened later that day, around 2:15 p.m.

WPS says police responded to a convenience store along Ellice Avene. When officers arrived, they found a man in his 20s with an undisclosed number of stab wounds outside the business.

“Officers applied emergency medical care, including a chest seal, until he was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition,” said WPS in a statement.

“The victim indicated he had been assaulted on McMicken Street, then made it to the store to contact police. He did not provide any additional information to the investigators.”

If anyone has any information relating to any of the three incidents, they are asked to call Winnipeg Police via the non-emergency line at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
