The Manitoba government announced it is investing $830,000 to create 30 nurse training spots at Red River College.
The goal of the investment is to address staffing shortages that have impacted Manitoba’s health-care system and delayed thousands of surgeries since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding will go towards renovating learning spaces, additional lab equipment, supplies and support new staffing.

The investment is part of a commitment made last year to add 400 total seats in nursing schools across the province.
“Our government is strengthening health care,” said Health Minister Audrey Gordon. “Investing in nurses who are an integral part of our health-care team is building our province’s health human resource capacity.
“We have been working closely with post-secondary institutions to sustainably increase the capacity of existing nursing programs throughout the province.”
