Man, 35, dies of injuries after North End fire; suspect charged with 1st-degree murder

A 22-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after one of three people injured in a North End fire on Thursday night died of their injuries.
A 35-year-old man injured in the blaze at a home on St. Johns Avenue near Aikins Street died in hospital two days later. He has been identified as Mark Bosadas Marmeto.
The two other victims, a 31-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, sustained life-altering burns. The woman has since been released from hospital while the man remains there.
A man was arrested at the scene. Ismail Abdihakim Ali was initially charged with aggravated assault, arson causing bodily harm, and more. The charges of first-degree murder and attempt to commit murder were later authorized.
The charges against him have not been tested in court.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was called to the two-storey home around 10:15 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. The fire was declared under control at 11:01 p.m.
All occupants had evacuated the home before firefighters arrived.
