Manitoba ends vaccine card requirement

New public health orders have come into effect in Manitoba that remove all remaining proof of vaccination requirements for public places. As Mark Neufeld reports some people are happy with the change while others think it’s too soon.

Manitoba businesses and other public places are no longer required to request a proof of vaccination.

New provincial health orders came into effect March 1 removing all vaccine card requirements.

Some businesses can choose to still request a proof of vaccination.

For instance True North Sports and Entertainment, the owner of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose, are still requiring proof of vaccination from fans until April 30.

Testing requirements for designated public sector employees also came to an end. That includes for child-care and health-care workers.

Mask mandates and all remaining health orders are in effect until March 15.

A first batch of public-health restrictions was removed on Feb. 15, with capacity limits at restaurants and other venues removed.

“Based on the information and data monitored by public health, we are seeing strong signals that the Omicron wave has peaked and is now having a reduced impact here in Manitoba,” Dr. Brent Roussin said in early February when the decision to ease restrictions was first announced.
