Man charged for allegedly assaulting Winnipeg senior

Winnipeg police say a 20-year-old man has been charged with allegedly assaulting a Winnipeg senior on Thursday.

WPS says the alleged incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on June 25 at an apartment complex along Rothesay Street.

Officers responded after getting a report of an assault with a weapon, and when they arrived at the scene, they found a 74-year-old man suffering from upper-body injuries. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, and was later upgraded to stable.

Through the initial stages of an investigation, police learned that the man was socializing with another man when they became involved in a verbal argument, which reportedly escalated to the point where one of the men was allegedly struck in the upper body with a weapon.

WPS was able to take 20-year-old Tyrone Jack Goulet into custody, and he has been charged with assault with a weapon.
