Terry Sawchuk Arena abruptly closed by the city due to structural issues

The Terry Sawchuk Arena in East Kildonan is closed for the foreseeable future, due to structural issues, city officials say.
Work was being done on a restoration project at the Arena, but an unexpected and significant structural issue was uncovered, according to the city.
“The issue presents enough concern that we immediately closed the facility out of an abundance of caution. We understand this is disruptive to arena users and are working hard to reopen the facility as soon as it is safe. We are in the process of contacting all rental groups to help relocate ice time, wherever possible,” read a statement to CityNews.
The city did not specify a timeline for reopening and is directing residents who planned to attend public skating times to find alternative options on the city website.
