Man charged for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend over the weekend: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 21-year-old man has been charged with allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

WPS says around 5 a.m. on Feb. 28, officers responded to a report of a domestic call along Meadowood Drive near Dakota Street.

Reports indicated that a man had armed himself with a knife and allegedly stabbed his 21-year-old girlfriend without provocation. The report also indicated that an 83-year-old woman tried to intervene, but was allegedly threatened and assaulted by the man, before she contacted police.

Officers responded and provided emergency medical care to the 21-year-old before she was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police were able to take a man in the residence into custody, and he has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, two counts of uttering threats causing death or bodily harm, possession of a weapon, and assault.

Police say that he remains in custody, noting that his identity will be withheld to protect the identity of both women.
