Jets fans react as Winnipeg locks in captain Adam Lowry for five more years

Following his career-best season and pivotal part in the team's Presidents' Trophy run, the Winnipeg Jets have secured captain Adam Lowry with a new five-year agreement, keeping the core of their lineup intact.

Fans are reacting strongly after the Winnipeg Jets locked in their captain for another five years.

The Winnipeg Jets announced Wednesday night that they have signed captain Adam Lowry to a five year, 25 million dollar contract extension.

“I feel its good, he’s our captain and he’s been with the team for awhile, he’s a vital part of the team,I think its good,” said a Jets fan.

“Oh I think he is underpaid, hes a great leader on the team and I think the Jets would be lost without him, so yeah, it’s a great signing,” said another Jets fan.

“Excellent decision, good man, well versed, I think a true fan favourite, everything’s good, pay him more,” said another.

The contract, which carries a 5 million dollar average annual value, kicks in next season.

“I think he is well worth the money, absolutely, has good place, hes a hustler, and he is a local guy that loves the city, you gotta pay a guy something,” said another.

Lowry has played all 12 of his NHL seasons in Winnipeg and has been the team’s captain since the start of the 2023 season. Over his career, he has recorded 122 goals and 154 assists in 782 games. The Jets drafted him in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft.

“I been fortunate to grow up in this organization, be drafted by them, play my whole carrer for this organization, and to have the chance to finish it here is , you know, incredible,” said Lowry. “I told my agent kinda at the start of this process, I just wanted to stay in winnipeg.”

The 32-year-old has three points in seven games since making his season debut on Nov. 4 following an injury. Last season Lowry put up 16 goals, 34 points and a plus 18 rating. He also scored four goals in the Jets last playoff run and helped the team win its first Presidents Trophy with a franchise record 116 points.

The Jets take on the Carolina Hurricanes Friday at 6 p.m. on home ice.
