‘Almost fell out of my chair’: Brandon man wins $5 million on LOTTO 6/49 ticket

A Brandon man is in shock after winning the Nov. 24 LOTTO 6/49 draw, netting a big prize of $5 million.

Louis Montroy did a triple-take when scanning his ticket.

“I scanned the ticket and thought, ‘$50,000?!’” he said. “But there were too many zeroes. So I thought, ‘Nah, that’s $500,000!’”

“All of a sudden it clicked in that it was actually five-million-dollars,” he continued, laughing. “Well, oh my God! Was I ever surprised!”

He even checked the numbers back at home again, just to be sure.

He’s still not sure what he’ll do with the money, but plans to share it with his family.

“I’m going to make sure my kids are taken care of,” he said. “I want to help them out with whatever they need. After that, I have no idea what I’m going to do!”

Montroy purchased his ticket from the Canadian Tire Gas Bar located at 1655 18 Street in Brandon.

Earlier this year, a Winnipeg family shared a $60 million LOTTO MAX prize, the largest win in Manitoba history.

Manitoba also paid out a $27,505,455.30 LOTTO 6/49 prize to a winner from Fraserwood, MB; and a $20 million LOTTO MAX prize to a Wasagamack local.
