Winnipeg officer fires on, injures 18-year-old North End shooting suspect: police

Winnipeg police say an 18-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being shot by an officer in the city’s North End around 2:30 a.m. Monday.
The Winnipeg Police Service says Manitoba’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), is investigating.
The WPS says an officer was near Aikins Street and College Avenue when he heard multiple gunshots nearby. Police say the officer arrived and was allegedly confronted by a woman and a 16-year-old youth.
Investigators allege the woman and youth are linked to the shooting outside a home on College Avenue.
“A use of force encounter occurred, a police service firearm was discharged, and the woman was injured,” police said in a news release.
Authorities allege a gun was seized from the suspects.
The woman was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable condition. The teenager was arrested.
