Construction work damages natural gas line, evacuating Winnipeg buildings

Some buildings were evacuated Monday morning after a gas line was damaged during construction work in the Valhalla neighbourhood.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services responded to an area near the Henderson Highway and McIvor Street around 10:37 a.m.

Crews arrived at the scene and found the damaged natural gas line, which had been hit during construction work.

Nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution, despite gas venting safely into the outdoor air.

Manitoba Hydro was able to stop the leak, allowing everyone to return to the evacuated buildings.
