Winnipeg police seek suspect after woman sexually assaulted

Winnipeg police are looking for a suspect in a sexual assault in the city’s West End on Sunday night.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a man sexually assaulted a woman near Canora Street and Picardy Place around 10:30 p.m.

Authorities say the victim was walking south on Toronto Street and crossed Portage Avenue when she was grabbed by a man she didn’t know.

“He threatened to harm her if she screamed and she was pulled into an alcove nearby. She was choked, sexually assaulted and robbed of her property,” police said in a news release.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, about six-feet tall with a heavy build and short, spiky dark hair. At the time of the assault, he was wearing black shorts, black shoes and no shirt.

Anyone with information or video is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6245.
