The Winnipeg Sea Bears are adding a big name to the team.
The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) franchise signed three-time MVP Xavier Moon to a one-year deal, making him the new face of the franchise in 2026.
“My decision was pretty easy to make, and I’m just happy to be here, and ready to get started with the organization,” said Moon.
The guard last played in the CEBL for the Edmonton Stingers in 2021 when he led the league in scoring en route to his third straight player of the year award.
Since then, he’s spent time in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers and their G League affiliate, as well as the NBA summer league. Most recently, he played in Russia for Zenit St. Petersburg.

“When I left in 2021, man I was still on the rise, still trying to figure myself out, find my identity, and I’ve done that over the last couple of years,” Moon said. “So I’m definitely coming back a better and a different player.”
Sea Bears head coach and general manager Mike Raimbault says adding a player of Moon’s character will be instrumental in helping the rest of the recruiting process to fill out the roster.
“It should be an easy sell in terms of if you’re picking someone to play with, I mean he’s obviously at the top of the list.
“He makes everybody else better. I mean I think he can go get a bucket in money time when he needs to, but he can also find the open teammate.”
Moon says he’s excited to be rejoining a league that has grown in talent and popularity since the last time he put on a CEBL jersey.
“The talent level is getting better, obviously there’s more teams, more organizations are joining the league, and I just want to be a part of that in whatever way I can,” he said.
And most of all, he says he can’t wait to play in front of a Winnipeg fan base that set a league record in attendance in 2025.
“I’m very excited,” Moon said. “I watched a couple of games that were played here, and I can definitely tell that the fan base is getting behind the team. So I’m looking forward to that, and then just being in Winnipeg, this is only my second time in Winnipeg so I’m looking forward to some warm weather once I get here.”
