Winnipeg police say a man has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Lake St. Martin First Nation man in August.
The Winnipeg Police Service says Melvin Catcheway Jr., 25, was found seriously injured in the early hours of Aug. 29 on Langside Street near Sargent Avenue.
Catcheway was taken to hospital in critical condition where he died of his injuries.
At the time it was the 18th homicide of the year in Winnipeg.
Authorities are now saying Catcheway and another man became involved in an altercation, at which point Catcheway was shot. Police say the suspect and victim knew each other.
On Friday, Troy Donavan Bernier, 53, was arrested and charged. He was detained in custody.
The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
