Police in Manitoba and Novia Scotia say two teens have been arrested — one in each province — in connection with alleged threats against a local high school.
Bridgewater Police Service said it was alerted to concerning online conversations between a youth from that town and another from Manitoba by INTERPOL and the FBI last Friday.
The Nova Scotia youth had discussed mounting a “violent attack” on students at Bridgewater’s Park View Education Centre, while the Manitoba youth talked about attacking a school in that province, according to police.
“While the attack was not believed to be imminent, it was clear that they had committed some thought and planning to the idea,” reads a media release from BPS.
Park View Education Centre enrols 880 students in Grades 10 to 12, according to its website.
The RCMP arrested the Manitoba youth on March 16, and Bridgewater police took the Nova Scotia youth into custody on March 17.
“Police located detailed handwritten plans, imitation weapons, roughly made imitation pipe bomb and assault rifle, electronic devices including cell phone and laptop and clothing with hate symbols and concerning comments,” the release said.
The 15-year-old from Bridgewater has been charged with conspiracy to murder, uttering threats to cause death, and charges related to hate crimes and other offences remain under investigation.
The youth was expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
Bridgewater police asked for anyone with information on the investigation to come forward.
